Peter, Thanks for the posts on gliders. Former glider pilot Harold Axelson unfortunately
died three months ago. Another great American and human being for that matter.
The Horsa glider was not very popular with the Americans and in Normandy they met
with disaster. 27% of the glider riders in the 101st were either killed or injured upon landing.
Losses with the 82nd was 16%, but the All-American Division had many times more troopers
landing by glider than the Screaming Eagles. One funny thing was years ago I was flying
to California with my family to visit my sister out there. Well we are coming in to land and
I look over at my Dad and he has this terrorified look on his face. Any landing in a plane                          always reminded him of his glider days.
